KPL Custom Computers — Custom Built. Expert Care.

Built around how you use your home

Make your connections work for you.

You do not need to know which equipment to buy or what the technical terms mean. Start with what is not working and what you want to accomplish.

01

Wi-Fi coverage & reliability

Weak signal upstairs? Calls dropping when someone else starts streaming? I can investigate coverage and connection problems where you actually use your devices.

  • Wi-Fi placement and configuration
  • Access point setup where appropriate
  • Testing in the rooms that matter

02

Home office connections

Get your computer, docking station, and printer connected in a way that suits your workspace, whether you have existing Ethernet or need to explore wireless options.

  • Home office and shared printer setup
  • Ethernet switches and existing connections
  • Wireless bridges where suitable

03

Router & device setup

Make your network easier to use and manage, from setting up a new router to connecting the devices everyone in your household relies on.

  • Router and network switch configuration
  • Guest Wi-Fi and basic security settings
  • Organized connections for shared devices
Could owning your equipment save money?

Buying a compatible modem or router may cost less over time than renting from your internet provider. I can help compare costs and check compatibility before you buy. Savings depend on your plan; equipment may already be included.

04

Network troubleshooting

Slow connections and interruptions can have different causes. I can test the network, review the equipment, and help you understand the next practical step.

  • Connection and performance diagnostics
  • Internet versus local network checks
  • Clear recommendations before purchases

A practical plan, explained clearly

Start with the problem. Find what makes sense.

A new router is not automatically the answer. I look at your existing equipment, the layout of your home, and how everyone uses the connection before recommending changes.

Discuss your setup
  1. 01

    Understand

Talk through the rooms, devices, users, and connection problems that matter most.

  2. 02

    Test & recommend

Check the connections and equipment, then explain suitable options and costs before additional work.

  3. 03

    Configure & connect

Make the agreed changes, reusing suitable equipment where it makes sense.

  4. 04

    Verify & explain

Test the agreed setup and walk you through what changed and how to arrange further help.

From my own home network

An office connection. A second life for a router.

A personal project showing how existing equipment can solve a specific connection problem.

The challenge

My upstairs home office needed connections for a docking station and a separate personal computer, without running Ethernet cable between floors.

The approach

I repurposed an existing router as a wireless bridge. It connects over Wi-Fi to the main router, then provides two short Ethernet connections at the desk. A separate printer connects directly through Wi-Fi.

Why it matters

Suitable equipment already on hand made this setup possible. A bridge is one option to evaluate alongside existing Ethernet and access points; the right choice depends on the home and equipment.

The connection between floors is wireless. Ethernet is used only from the bridge to the office devices.

Technical notes and measured results

A NETGEAR R7800 was configured as a 5 GHz wireless bridge to a NETGEAR RAXE300 main router. At the upstairs personal computer, one test measured 640.23 Mbps download, 354.58 Mbps upload, and 16 ms internet latency. A separate 20-packet test to the local gateway averaged 4 ms with no packet loss.

These measurements describe my installation at the time of testing. They are not guaranteed customer speeds, a before-and-after comparison, or evidence of long-term availability. Results depend on the internet service, equipment, layout, interference, and other network activity.

Before we get started

A few networking questions.

Will I need new equipment?

Possibly, but I review what you have first. Better placement, configuration changes, or reuse of suitable equipment may be enough. Any recommended purchases are discussed before proceeding.

Do you run Ethernet inside walls or between floors?

This service covers equipment setup, short device connections, and use of existing Ethernet connections. In-wall cabling and electrical installation are outside this service. Where suitable, we can explore wireless options for an office without existing Ethernet.

Can you guarantee speeds or coverage in every room?

No. Internet service, building materials, distance, interference, equipment, and the number of active devices all affect performance. I test the agreed locations and explain realistic options for your setup.

Can you help when several people use the network at once?

Yes. Tell me which activities overlap, such as video meetings, streaming, gaming, and schoolwork. I can investigate the connections and equipment and help identify practical changes. Some limitations may come from the internet service itself.

What support is available after the work?

Contact me with questions about the completed work or to arrange further help during my evening and weekend hours. Visits and additional support are scheduled by appointment; ongoing monitoring and automatic response to outages are not included.

Can you set up a home network status dashboard?

Yes. I can set up a simple page where you can check whether selected devices and services are online. It runs on a suitable computer that stays on at home. If you need a small computer just for this, I can include one in your quote.

I’ll set it up, test it, and show you how to use it. Pricing depends on the equipment and setup needed. You check the dashboard yourself; I don’t watch it or respond automatically if something goes offline. Future changes and additional help are arranged separately by appointment.

The dashboard checks whether things are reachable, not whether every feature is working. It’s only available while the computer running it and your home network are working.
